ONLINE Iconography School

The Online Iconography School offers comprehensive online training in iconography, designed to teach all the essential fundamentals to anyone interested in this sacred art form.
Our program consists of four progressive courses, each building upon the skills and knowledge developed in the previous one.

All lessons are conducted live via Google Meet, providing real-time interaction and guidance.
Assignments are included with each course, along with personalised feedback and corrections to help you improve and grow as an iconographer.

The Curriculum

UNIT 1

    • Learn to draw the basic structure of the face, busts, and full-body saints

    • Learn the History and Theology of Byzantine Iconography

UNIT 2

  • Discover the Art of Iconographic Painting

    • Learn how to make traditional egg tempera paints

    • Explore colour mixing techniques

    • Build a solid foundation in colour theory

    • Perfect for students continuing from Unit 1

UNIT 3

    • Learn to paint the basic structure of the face, busts, and full-body saints

    • Introduction to composition in iconographic painting

    • Explore techniques for painting clothing and drapery

    • Ideal for students who have completed previous units

UNIT 4

    • Learn the principles of icon composition and layout

    • Explore the art of designing your own icons

    • Introduction to gold gilding techniques for a traditional finish

    • Ideal for students looking to bring all their skills together in full icon projects
